Mountain Home 7/8 Michelle and Dan, Mike was there too

Mountain Home is about 3 miles of River on the North Fork of the Big Thompson.  It has numerous wild brown trout that actively pursue dry flies along with the occasional stocked cut-bow (rainbow and cutthroat hybrid).   We started the day by getting rid of Mike.  I talked with a guide that had Mike 2 days prior, the advise was, “I didn’t see him all day”.  So, knowing Mike to be a die-hard fisherman with tons of energy, I set him up with some flies, some back-up flies, dropped him off at the bottom of the property and said, “Meet you up river”.  I’m pretty sure that was exactly the type of guidance he wanted for the day.

So, Dr. Michelle and Dan, cousins on a family reunion, went fishing with me.  It wasn’t long before I realized that Dan needed to be set-free as well.  I gave him a couple pointers, we caught a fish on the first 5 casts, and I sent him on his way upriver.  This was Michelle’s first time fly fishing, so it wasn’t immediate gratification, but we got rolling at an accelerated teaching level (she’s a Dr. you know), and we were onto fish in no time.

We caught great fish on both the dry fly called the Amy’s Ant, and also a giant beetle.  As for nymphs, the trout couldn’t resist dropping a two-bit hooker in front of them…that’s the name of the fly, I swear.  Ought yah, we got a double on dry flies, and also Michelle fell in the water (I couldn’t resist taking a picture of that : )  Sorry Michelle.  Also, I don’t know how to change that picture of Dan that is sideways, sorry Dan.   Please click the facebook button on the bottom and share the post with your friends.  Thanks guys!
