6/5am Henry, Scott, Dave on the Big Thompson

Scott took great instruction and was on a fish within the first 10 casts.  Unfortunately, we didn’t get it to the net, but Henry hooked one soon after and we started the day off with one in the net. Henry is one heck of a fly fisherman.  With a little instruction plus some lucky sunglasses, he out-fished everyone for the day.  I don’t want to say how many fish he caught, to be fair to others, but I can tell you that he had also had a special custom fly that that I tied, and it was the last one the fly box.  Scott was getting the technique but having trouble reading the water to catch fish, rather than sticks and weeds. I moved Scott to a little cliff ledge that is known to hold a good run of fish, and sure enough, he caught a great share of his total out of this section including a large fish that we didn’t get a picture of (or so he says : )  .  Our fearless leader Dave didn’t have the special fly that Henry had, but Henry was nice enough to lend Dave his rod so that he could catch a fish.  The lucky fly paid off, and Dave was on the board with a little catch (picture too embarrassing to show).  We gave Henry the rod back, and the seal was broke for Dave who caught a couple more quick fish to finish the day.
